We are Brown and RISD students who are interested in exploring modes of visually representing the intersections of science, technology and society. We combine our skills in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and traditional art media to publish the semesterly Triple Helix magazine.
We work together to design the layout for each article that gets published. Both artists and layout designers work on up to 2-4 articles a semester. We formulate the concept, create the visuals, work with writers to design infographics, and finally piece together the components into the final product. Layout designers are expected be proficient in InDesign (or willing to learn). Photoshop, Illustrator or any relevant software is a plus. Artists often work in traditional media such as pencil, watercolor, ink or pastel, but may also create digital works. This semester, we are experimenting with a series of skills-development workshops where layout designers and artists collaborate across skill boundaries to expand each group's artistic toolkit.
